The second most often question I get asked is…so what are you bringing to wear for the next four months??

Surprisingly little. But still quite a lot. Here’s the list of what I have in my trusty rusty 60L pack, a Gregory Jade. She probably weighs around 22 -25 lbs. and can be used as a carry-on or you can check it as baggage. Great pack – took her first spin with me to Thailand, continued traveling with me on my Irish Kerry Way trek with Amber and Terra (Julie Torpy and Terri Drahos’ trailer-trash-named packs (kiddddding), and the 3-month Euro-trip last year and now for a romp around SEA. (That’s Southeast Asia, and it’s how all the cool kids say it these days).

  1. Packing cubes. Best. Things. Ever. Just roll up your stuff. Zip ’em up. Voila! No digging around in your pack looking for a shirt or socks.
  2. In the medium packing cube– shirts. Black tank top. Two Black tees. Black and white striped tee. Black long sleeve tee. (See a pattern here? Or lack thereof?). Dark blue tee.
  3. In largest packing cube – Bottoms: grey shorts. Red shorts. Black “Adventure pants”. Olive green hiking skirt. Yoga leggings. Swim coverup dress.
  4. One bathing suit.
  5. Marmot rain jacket.
  6. Favorite black puffy down jacket. Perfect for on the plane when it gets cold or as a pillow. Love this thing. Warm enough but not too warm. It’s like magic.
  7. A black workout jacket.
  8. 4 pairs Ex-Officio travel undies. Yes. Those. The kind you wear into the shower and wash, then hang from the end of the hostel bunkbed to dry so you can wear them in the a.m.
  9. Two sports bras. One regular bra.
  10. Two pair of socks for hiking and compression socks for the plane.
  11. My most favoritest shoes – my Chacos πŸ’–
  12. Hiking boots.
  13. Flip flops for the shower.
  14. Microfiber travel towel.
  15. Silk sleeping bag liner – great for hostel beds that aren’t quite “magazine clean” or sleeper trains made for the zombie apocalypse.
  16. Misc meds – Tums, Advil, Ambien, contacts and saline, my famous weed salve. Toe cushions (just ask me). Sunscreen, Deet. Electrolyte tablets.
  17. Deodorant, hair products, toothbrush and toothpaste, floss (not sure why I bring it!?) mascara, lip gloss.
  18. One pair hoop earrings and my favorite Tri-spiral necklace. A turtle bracelet for good luck -πŸ’ƒπŸΌ – gracias Miguel.
  19. iPad, portable keyboard (loving it so far and only $29!), iphone, noise canceling Bose headphones (thank you Christina, for making me buy them even though they were expensive AF), Jackery power bank (love this thing and happy to share why). Outlet converter, spare charger cord.
  20. Solar lantern (verrrry cool and only ten bucks!) and headlamp… ’cause you never know.
  21. Sawyer water filter to avoid buying bottled water all day and every day.
  22. A book (“The Alchemist” from Brendan), a notebook for notes, two Valet Waste pens (those of you who know, KNOW!) because sometimes you just need to write down stuff.
  23. A packable daypack. And a foldable shopping sack (πŸ‘πŸΌ Deanna!)
  24. Small travel purse for going out at night and looking snazzy – thank you Allen and Stef!

Yes, this all fits comfortably in the big backpack and the carry-on daypack. See? That’s a lotta stuff.

And some of the stuff I’m wearing – the hiking boots, puffy jacket, yoga pants etc as I’m flying all day today (yeah, flight got delayed/cancelled/rescheduled/rebooked so now I’m a day later to arrive in Ho Chi Minh City than expected…ah, the joys of travel!)

Happy to share brands chosen and reasons why I use these things over and over again. 😎

Cindy – I’m finally getting around to reading your blog! Yes…while at work. πŸ™‚ Those Ex-Oficio undies are for real legit – I think I somehow ended up with the grandma kind but no shame from me! Also – you know my feelings about the down jackets – complete magic!

  2. Love this list. I’m excited to see what those Valet Waste pens are! My current 2 pens are Bic clic style in turquoise and lime green with “Where Were We’re” and They’re There Their” printed on them.
